Traffic Congestion in cities of Sri Lanka

Traffic Congestion in cities of Sri Lanka

Think of an evening at Colombo, when you are inside a bus hoping to reach your home town. The bus is crawling pace to pace inside a stream of vehicle who repeating the same pace without a change, how do you feel? Once when I was in a hurry, I was troubled with same happening and I had to spend total one and half hours to reach to the university. All of these because of the “Traffic Congestion” in cities. Mostly during the weekdays in three periods of time, we have to experience the traffic in main cities. Firstly at the morning from 6am to 8am during the school and office starting hours, it’s hard to get into a bus or to move a vehicle. It was the most crowded time of cities. Next, at the end of the schools, from 1.30pm to 3pm afternoon. Finally, at the evening from 4.30 to 7.30 at the evening, you can experience huge traffic congestion continuously in every city. This huge problem not only for us, but for the whole world. Still no one can found a suitable solution for the road traffics
.
Traffics snitch not only our precious time, but there are many more. Actually, because of traffics, there’s a huge loss of time of working people. Sometimes it causes to minimize the human contacts and interactions. During traffic, people have to lose their time and also they have to burn more extra fuel to move ahead. That is the causes the degradation of national income of the country. Sometimes traffic causes so many accidents and people are not secure during the journey to their houses. Not only had that, mostly women including child to adult, had to face a lot of problems in buses and other public transport methods. They are insecure and it’s a problem which contains no solutions. Nowadays, traffic has opened a door to thieves who are acute in steeling the passengers’ money, mobiles and other valuable things. So, we can identify traffic as a social problem.

On the other hand, traffic creates most of the environmental pollution in cities. Simply, the vehicle emissions pollutes the city air. Due to the time taken to move ahead, the vehicles emits a huge sound from their engines and wheels. This cause noise pollution and also creates a vibration up to an exceeding decibel of the normal level. The day time sunlight also effects on people badly because cities consist of less trees.Indirectly, the traffic pollutes the water bodies during rainy seasons by the washouts on the roads. Because of the traffic, the collection of dust, oil patches, litter and other dirt makes the outlook of the towns unpleasant. Based on the above pollution, finally people have to suffer from so many defects, not only for the inhabitants, but for the visitors and nearby dwellers. Any how this is another reason for the degradation of national income.

Finally we can conclude that, the traffic is not only creates problem in transportation sector, but also in social, environmental and economic sections. If we are without actions, we will unable to develop our countries. It’s in our hands to settle the situation before it corrupt the whole country. So, start on thinking from today in order to plan the city and to reduce traffic.
